Divya Dutta boasts of a great body of work and has won several accolades including the National Film Award — however, she’s mostly seen in supporting roles. The actress tells us, “It’s not that supporting performances go unrecognized. Had that been the case, I wouldn’t have won the National Film Award for best supporting actress. What’s important to me is that I have a soulful presence in the movies I choose. Most of my films have got nominated for prestigious awards, which is enough to prove that I got to work on good projects.”

Along with meaningful cinema and serious roles, Divya has also tried her hand at comedy with films like Welcome To Sajjanpur. “It was a different experience. I don’t know why people think I am a serious person and cannot do comedy. In reality, I am a child-like girl. If I am comfortable, I will definitely open up,” she shares.

Talking about who she’d like to work with in the industry, Divya says, “If I ever get a chance, I want to work with Aamir Khan. He is a very fine actor and filmmaker.”

The months of Coronavirus lockdown were a learning experience for many, and Divya says the time taught her to be self-reliant. “I learnt to do things I never thought of. I shot for ad films and since I was shooting at home, I was doing art direction, make-up, recording, etc. But at the same time, I’ve also realised those behind the camera are vital to ensure smooth shoots.”
