Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming biopic, Sardar Udham Singh, which was supposed to release in October 2020, has Vicky Kaushal playing the titular role. The revolutionary freedom fighter had assassinated British officer Michael O’Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. We have now learnt that Amol Parashar, who had featured in Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare last year, has been roped in to portray the legendary Shaheed Bhagat Singh in the movie.

Since Amol is known for playing quirky, urban characters, this seems like a complete breakaway from his image on screen so far. A source says, “Shoojit wants to show Bhagat Singh in a realistic manner — as a sharp and intelligent young man who had a lightness to him at the same time. The actor had many conversations with the director and also read a lot of literature on Bhagat Singh, including those written by the brave martyr himself as a young revolutionary.”
