TENET did pretty well on its first day considering the present
situation as it collected 1.10-1.20 crore nett. Its the best response we
have seen at the box office since reopening in October with business
down around 60-70% from a normal scenario. Generally, we have see
business down in the 90% region with other releases.
The turnout was not so strong on the day as half of the collection for the first day was in the advance itself but this was sort of expected as a higher ratio of the audience wanting to see the film would have bought tickets in advance. There were a many shows which had a turnout of 100 plus people with some IMAX screenings getting to the capacity which is permitted now.
The film is a niche film in terms of India and the target prior to release which would have been seen as a good result was double figure lifetime numbers so it remains to be seen if the film can get over the 10 crore nett mark in time. Normally for this type of film you would expect second day to show huge growth but we are in different times at the moment so its difficult to how the film will trend over the next week or so.
The film managed to sell 70000 apprx tickets on the first day which is not a big number but still good news for the ailing exhibition sector.
