The petition says almost four months after it took over the probe, agency is yet to conclude its probe

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday seeking directions for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit its status report in the probe related to Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Rajput, 34, was found dead at his apartment in Bandra on June 14.
The plea said the apex court had passed an order for a CBI inquiry on August 19 and even after almost four months, the national investigative agency is yet to conclude its investigation. “The CBI is not acting responsible in the present case and there is a delay in the conclusion of the investigation of the case,” it said.
“Even in serious offences like murder, the law stipulates filing of charge sheet in 90 days but in the present case the premium investigating agency has failed miserably in their role and the unnecessary delay in the present case is bringing a bad name to the administration of justice not only in our country but across the globe,” the plea said.
Rajput, 34, was found dead in his apartment in Bandra on June 14. On Centre’s order, the CBI had taken over the case probe in August from the Bihar police, which registered a case on July 25 on a complaint from the deceased’s father on charges including abetment to suicide against Rajput's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and others. In September, a panel of forensic experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, whose help on medico-legal aspects had been sought by the CBI, allegedly found no presence of organic poison/toxic chemicals in the deceased’s viscera sample. The panel maintained that the death was a case of hanging. Rajput's family later wrote to the CBI director for the setting up of a new forensic panel to re-examine evidence in the case.
The plea sought direction to the CBI to complete its probe within two months and submit a final report in the concerned court. It said Rajput was found dead in mysterious circumstances, and the probe was initially conducted by Mumbai Police. “On dissatisfaction being shown by the family of the late actor this court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to conduct an enquiry in the mysterious death of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput,” the plea said. The PIL said that a fair, competent, impartial and speedy investigation is the need of the hour.
