Kareena Kapoor Khan has been visiting movie sets right from the time her sister Karisma Kapoor joined films in the 90s. Kareena entered the industry with Refugee in 2000, and has been working in films non-stop for 20 years. In her two-decade-long career, the one aspect that has made her extremely happy is the spike in the number of women on a film set, which would be fairly low earlier.
The actress says, “I think women now form half the crew on any film set. I feel happy to know that they are doing all the jobs and are doing them so well. They are excelling in every department, including being producers and directors. Look at Anushka Sharma; she has come up with a great production slate. I feel so proud to know that we have such a strong film producer in an actor. It feels amazing that all this is happening.”
Be it post marriage or motherhood, Kareena never went off the radar where work was concerned. She has had a great run at the movies and worked with acclaimed filmmakers and the biggest of stars. Over the years, she feels that the industry’s outlook towards actresses who are married or have children has changed for the better. Talking about it, she says, “Today, I think producers and directors are open to working with married actresses or actresses with children. In fact, we don’t even discuss that anymore. Like in Hollywood, who talks about it? Nobody gives it a thought.”
Kareena says, “Now, filmmakers look at you as an actor; they look at you as a personality that they want in their film.”
The actress has never been the sort who would want to give up her work. However, what she is particular about is the time that she devotes to her projects. She says, “I am doing what I want to do. This is something that comes naturally to me. But, of course, I am very particular about my timings, about how much time I can give for a movie or a shoot… definitely, that becomes a bit restricted, but we all try to adjust as much as possible. And the producers and directors are accepting of it.”
