“I started screaming like a maniac the moment they announced the winner,” says an elated Shefali Shah. And why not? Her show Delhi Crime was announced the winner for the Best Drama Series at the 48th International Emmy Awards on Monday.

Shah, who headlined the web show helmed by Richie Mehta says her phone hasn’t stopped ringing. “The show gave me a new lease of life. It changed a lot for me. I’m so proud to be a part of the show. This win belongs to the entire team. I can’t wait to celebrate this with them all,” she says. The show also stars Rajesh Tailang, Rasika Dugal and Adil Hussain.

Delhi Crime revolves around the 2012 Delhi rape case and sees Shah portray a Deputy Commissioner of Police investigating the case. “The story needed to be taken to the world. The nomination at the Emmys was a humbling experience because here we’re talking about shows that are picked from across the globe,” she shares.

Talking about the difference an international award makes, she says, “There’s another stamp on it now and it does make a difference. One of the first awards that we won was at the Asian Academy Creative Awards. We went to Sundance Film Festival, too. So every time you get that kind of recognition, it’s incredible.”

Shah also praises web for broadening the horizon. “Delhi Crime dropped in 191 countries, so that’s the reach. And the kind of roles you get here, isn’t just about a hero and heroine, it’s about the story,” she adds.

Ask if she thinks this win will convert into better opportunities and she says, “Every actor is greedy for good parts and stories. So I’m waiting and I’m sure it’ll come my way.”
