Mumbai: In his second bail plea in the drugs case that the NCB is probing in connection with actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, Rhea Chakraborty’s brother Showik denied allegations of being part of a drug syndicate. Showik is accused of procuring drugs for the late actor who was in a relationship with Rhea.

His bail plea said, “It is apparent that the late actor utilized the applicant (Showik), his sister and members of his household staff to facilitate his drug habit... while ensuring that he did not leave a paper trail of his own in the form of any electronic evidence whatsoever...”

The plea submitted through advocate Satish Maneshinde further said that based on information available in public domain, one Neeraj, who worked as cook with Rajput stated before the CBI and city police that three days prior to his death, Rajput had directed him to make ganja joints and place them in his bedroom. “Neeraj had further disclosed that he had prepared the joints and placed them in a box in the bedroom, and when the actor was found dead, he verified from the box that all the joints had been consumed as the entire box was empty,” the plea said.

The plea also cited the Supreme Court’s recent ruling in which it had held that statements made to NCB officers cannot be used as a confessional statement in the trial of an offence or to convict an accused under the NDPS Act.

On Saturday, during a hearing in the anticipatory bail plea of another in the case, Karishma Prakash, the prosecution iterated in NDPS court that it won’t take any coercive action against her till Tuesday, the next date of the hearing. Prakash, former manager for actor Deepika Padukone, is booked in same case as Showik.

Another arrested accused, film executive producer, Kshitij Prasad, also moved the same court, seeking bail in a second case of recovery of cocaine from a Nigerian in Andheri.
