Mona Singh of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi fame, who got married to Shyam Gopalan in December last year, says she is loving each and every moment of her married life. Having gotten married at the age of 39, Mona says, “We are living in a new world where there is no age to get married. I was in no rush. I feel this was the best age for me to get married because a person is more evolved, experienced and has seen his/her share of ups and downs, and you know that this (marriage) is important and this should stay. You get married now because you want to.”

While there may not be an age to get married, is Mona worried about the biological clock ticking? “I have frozen my eggs and now I am free. I did that at the age of 34. Because I have gotten married now, I want to chill with my partner and travel the world with him. I haven’t done that yet. I have always travelled with my family or friends. I want to do that with my husband now and it is a different feeling now — going for walks, getting all the attention, keeping Karwa Chauth vrat — all this is so nice. Even though I love kids, if you ask me now, I am not mentally prepared to have one. Later in life, I would definitely think about it,” she says. Mona adds, “My mother was so happy when she heard about my decision to freeze my eggs. We both went to my gynaecologist in Pune and I had to take a few months break from work as the process involves a lot of mood swings. It took about five months for the process and now, as I said, I am free.”

The actress shares that a lot has changed over the last few months. “I have lived with my parents all my life and I am used to my own independence and my own space, doing my own things. After marriage, I moved in with my husband in December. At that time also I was shooting for Laal Singh Chaddha, so I wasn’t really home. The whole of January and February I was not with him. It was in March that we actually started staying in together because of the lockdown,” says Mona.

She adds, “I experienced so many beautiful things happening for the first time in my life. Before I got married, Gaurav (Gera) used to be my go-to person. I used to chill with him and share everything with him. And now it is my husband, who is not only a companion but a great listener, too. Also, I am a very old school kind of person and so I believe in adjusting after marriage. Compromising is a negative term, so adjusting is what I would prefer to use. We both are adjusting and we both have our agreements and disagreements. We both are strong individuals and we respect each other’s individuality.”

Talking about the lockdown period, the actress says, “We saw and experienced the pandemic together. Our entire routine went out of the window. I am a very disciplined person. I sleep and wake up on time and I go for walks. But I couldn’t do anything because of the lockdown. We both chilled so much and I broke all my rules with him. I was up till 5 am watching movies and binging on shows, eating ice creams, cooking together, waking up in the afternoon. I had the best time in lockdown with my husband. Lockdown was actually like a mini honeymoon for the two of us. I don’t think we would have gotten so much time to spend together otherwise.”

The couple had planned a honeymoon in Spain and Italy in April-May, which didn’t happen because of the pandemic. However, they went to Goa recently. “The trip was fun! Usually what happens on vacations is that you get so tired that you need another vacation to rest. But that didn’t happen with us. We didn’t step out of the hotel and avoided crowded places or parties in Goa. I go to meet my parents every day and I don’t want to put them at risk. We both have done some 20-odd Coronavirus tests so far,” she shares.
