Sushant Singh Rajput’s partner Rhea Chakraborty will send a list of people allegedly making “fake and false claims” about the investigations into aspects related to the actor’s death and finances, with particular reference to her, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Chakraborty will request the CBI to initiate legal action against such people who made fake claims on news channels and electronic media “for a two-minute glory”, her lawyer Satish Maneshinde said on Sunday.

Maneshinde said his client will request the CBI to record the statements of such persons featuring in the list to be sent to the agency. Chakraborty, along with a few others, is facing probes by three central agencies - the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) - into aspects related to Rajput. Rajput’s body was found hanging by four flat-mates at his Bandra residence on June 14. Chakraborty was earlier questioned by the three central agencies multiple times as well as the Mumbai Police, which conducted an accidental death report inquiry. She is currently on bail, granted by the Bombay High Court, after the NCB arrested her.

“We will be forwarding a list of people to the CBI who made fake and false claims on TV and electronic media, including carrying mobile recording and fake stories on the SSR case with particular reference to Rhea Chakraborty to go after them and record their statements,” Maneshinde said. “We will request the CBI to take legal proceedings against them for misleading the investigations.”

“I had said that once Rhea Chakraborty is out on bail we will start going after people who defamed and tried to destroy her life and morale for a two-minute glory on electronic media carrying fake news,” Maneshinde said.

According to him, the CBI recorded the statement of a Chakraborty neighbour who has claimed somebody told her that Rajput dropped Chakraborty home on June 13, a day before the late actor was found hanging by his flatmates on June 14. A CBI team had visited Chakraborty’s house, to gather contact details of Chakraborty’s family, and subsequently quizzed the neighbour about the claims related to June 13, but allegedly got no specific details, sources said. Referring to the neighbour, Maneshinde said that she is an “SSR fan, and believes she is his soul-mate due to a past life connection”.

“She claims that someone told her that SSR dropped RC home on the 13th. It’s a baseless rumour by a fan who is part of the media circus and wants to share the limelight with others who claim to know SSR,” Maneshinde said.

Rajput’s family has written to the CBI director for the setting up of a new forensic panel to reexamine evidence in the case to determine whether there was any foul play in his death. Rajput’s family has so far questioned the findings of an AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) forensic panel’s final opinion submitted to the CBI last month that concluded his death was a case of hanging.

When contacted, a CBI spokesperson said: “No comments. The investigation in the case is on.”
