Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case, on Sunday recorded the statement of actor Rhea Chakraborty’s neighbour Dimple Thawani, who has been claiming that she saw Rhea and Rajput together on June 13, said sources. Rajput was found dead in his Bandra flat on June 14.

Sources said that when the CBI officials questioned Thawani, she said that she never saw Rajput and Rhea together on June 13, but had heard someone saying this.

CBI spokesperson R K Gaur, however, refused to confirm if Thawani was questioned. “The CBI investigation related to the death of Sushant is still continuing and all the aspects are being looked into meticulously,” he said.

Claiming that Thawani had lied to the electronic media, Rhea’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde requested the CBI to take legal proceedings against “those who mislead the investigation”. In a text message to mediapersons, he said: “We will start going after people who defamed and tried to destroy her (Rhea) life…for a 2 minutes glory on Electronic Media carrying Fake News. One such person was Dimple who claims she is a SSR fan, and believes she is his soulmate due to a past life connection. She claims that someone told her that SSR dropped Rhea home on the 13th.”

Last week, while commenting on the neighbour’s claims of being informed by an eyewitness about Rajput and Rhea being seen together on June 13, Rhea’s mother Sandhya had told TOI that her statements were “baseless” and an attempt to ride the tide. “We know this neighbour. She was a huge fan of Sushant’s who came over to our place to meet him once. Why she’d say something like this without proof is beyond me. One just has to look at Sushant or Rhea’s cellular location to know this whole thing is just another lie,” Sandhya had said.

Rhea, who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau on September 8 for alleged procurement of drugs for Rajput, is currently out on bail. Her brother Showik was, however, denied bail.
