An advocate had filed a complaint against the siblings over an allegedly offensive tweet directed at the Tablighi Jamaat

A magistrate court in Andheri has directed the police to submit their inquiry report on a complaint filed by an advocate against Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel, over an allegedly offensive tweet that was directed at attendees of the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi earlier this year.
“Allegations in the complaint are based on the comments of the accused on (a) social media platform. Evidence against the accused appears to be of electronic nature. Therefore inquiry at the hands of police is necessary for proceeding against (the) proposed accused. Such enquiry will be helpful to know the roles of (the) accused,"” the court observed.
The complaint, filed by advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, had claimed that Kangana’s sister Rangoli had made offensive and defamatory comments about Muslims from the Tablighi Jamaat sect, during the pandemic earlier this year. The magistrate noted that the Deshmukh had not filed certificates under the relevant sections of the Indian Evidence Act and that the alleged video was not on record.
Following public outrage over the tweet, Chandel’s Twitter account was suspended by the social media platform for ‘violation of Twitter Rules’. Kangana had published a video to her own twitter account reacting to the suspension of her sister’s account on April 18.
Deshmukh had submitted that he had previously filed a complaint with the Amboli police in April requesting them to take cognisance under sections of the Indian Penal Code that deal with spreading hatred and enmity among religious groups, but that no action was taken by the police.
Mirror had reported on October 17, that a magistrate court in Bandra had passed an order on a complaint by casting director and fitness trainer Munnawarali Sayyed, directing that an FIR be registered against actor Kangana and Rangoli for “trying to create hatred and communal tension between Hindus and Muslims" through their tweets.
