Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare tries to make an important comment about patriarchy in our society and is also laced with some great characters. A few scenes are exceptional but overall, the impact is minimal. This is mainly because there are too many unconvincing moments and situations in the film. The subplots are aplenty and not all of them reach a logical conclusion. The finale is bizarre. Performances however are too good. Konkona Sen Sharma is terrific as always and she proves yet again why she deserves to be seen more. Bhumi Pednekar also gives her best. Vikrant Massey’s screen time is limited but he leaves a huge mark. Amol Parashar is endearing while Aamir Bashir is okay. Kubbra Sait is quite dependable. Karan Kundrra gets no scope. Kalp Shah, as Dolly’s son Pappu, pulls off a challenging role with ease. Neelima Azeem is too good in the cameo. All in all, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare is embellished with some bravura performances but because of scattered and unconvincing narrative, it turns out to be an average fare.
My rating - ** ½ out of 5!
