As told to Abhimanyu Mishra (BOMBAY TIMES; May 8, 2020)
For music composer Amit Trivedi, the Coronavirus lockdown has been a strange experience. He says, “My time at home during the lockdown has been like a roller-coaster ride. There have been days when I have felt depressed, but I feel fine on other days. It was not easy to get used to this new way of life. Main kabhi chaar din ek saath ghar pe nahi baitha, aur ab 44 din se jyaada ho gaya hai. But now, I feel a lot calmer. This lockdown has taught me to be patient.”
‘I LOOK WITHIN FOR INSPIRATION WHEN I HIT A CREATIVE BLOCK’
Duirng this time, Amit has been looking within for creative inspiration to make music. “It is tough to find inspiration and create new stuff. I need my team of musicians around for creative exchange of ideas and making music. Travelling to different places with my team used to give me a lot of inspiration, now I am only moving from one bedroom to the other. I also feel that you don’t really need to go out in search of inspiration, there is so much to explore within and get inspiration from. I sit in my balcony and look at the sky and feel a sense of peace and happiness,” he says.
‘WILL HAVE TO WORK HARD TO GET OUR INDUSTRY BACK ON TRACK’
The music composer adds, “As composers, we are working from home and creating a lot of content. But, we need to put out music videos for public consumption. However, that can’t happen from our homes. Once we exhaust whatever we have created, it will be difficult to release more content. So, whenever the situation improves and we go back to work, we will have to put in a lot of extra effort to bring the music industry back on track.”
