Sumeet Vyas, Ekta Kaul are due next month, but pandemic could hit their plans for a six

On Sunday, Sumeet Vyas and Ekta Kaul, who tied the knot in 2018, announced that they are expecting their first child. “It was Ekta’s call. All we were hearing was gloomy news and she felt it was time to bring some joy in people’s lives,” laughs the dad-to-be, admitting that a few weeks ago, his primary concern was all that he would need to arrange for their child and if he’d be a good dad. “Now, it’s safety. I don’t want our child to grow up in an environment where they can’t go out to play. But I’m an optimist and believe that this too shall pass.”
Ekta is also trying to stay positive despite the Coronavirus scare. “I’m meditating, reading books and watching movies. Anyway, after all the household chores, you don’t get much time to think,” she laughs.
The couple had to invite their help to move in with them as Ekta cannot exert herself much. Having her better half around is also a blessing in disguise for the mom-to-be. On his part, Sumeet is happy to get all this time with his wife. “I don’t know when I will get alone time with her again, especially after our child is born. I always thought if I spent too much time with someone, we’d end up getting irritated. But we aren’t fighting much, so I guess that proves I’m not a bad companion,” he smirks, while Ekta chimes in, “He is a workaholic, so I’m sure he would never have thought of taking such a long break. But he’s been a real rock.”
In November last year, Ekta had posted a picture of her taking a bike ride to Ladakh. Did she know she was pregnant then? “I didn’t, but I felt like a rock star when I learnt the news on my return. I had gone to meet Sumeet who was shooting in Ladakh and wanted to explore the place. So, I made some friends with the crew and we all went for a bike ride. Throughout the trip, I was feeling slightly unwell and marked it down to altitude sickness,” she reminisces.
Sumeet informs that his aunt is a gynaecologist and so, they are not too stressed about medical care. “Fortunately, our last check-up was towards the end of February and the next one is in April-end. We’d want to have our baby in my aunt’s maternity hospital, but if the current scenario doesn’t improve, we might have to think of alternate options,” he signs off.
