Swwapnil Joshi has been a popular name across television and the film industry. And now, with the web booming, he is all set to appear in a web show, Samantar. He believes that the OTT space is “a creatively more satisfying space” for actors. He explains, “The characters that you play in a web-series are genuine and have a firmer connection with the audience than the characters in a film or a fictionalised TV show. You get to go closer to the truth (by playing characters) on the web. The web has no censorship and the fact that content is the king perfectly applies to it.”
He believes that the web has an upper hand over other platforms. He elaborates, “When it comes to the digital space, the audience has an access to actors anywhere and anytime. We live in a time where we want quick access to information. We don’t have to wait for a particular time to watch our favourite show. The web allows us to binge watch them at our leisure.”
The Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand actor says that he’s happy to associate himself with a medium that “gives a bandwidth” to makers and actors to take risks and experiment with their craft. “Digital platforms give you a lot of space to move around creatively. You can tell stories the way they are and in the way they are ought to be told without worrying about hurting anyone’s sentiments. You can work without worrying about any limitations,” he adds.
Ask him about a common thread between the different mediums that he has dabbled in and Joshi says, “Every industry works differently and has its own ups and downs. They’ve their own ways. However, the hunger, the passion and the zest to do good work are the same across all formats.”
