Nearly 54 years after the release of Jhumka Gira Re, Bappi Lahiri is set to recreate the iconic song for the upcoming movie Ishq Nachaunda Hai. Not only that, the veteran music director will be visiting the jhumka nagari — Bareilly — soon to shoot the song at the city’s famous zero point, which has now been named the Jhumka Tiraha, after a 14ft jhumka was installed at the spot recently. In a chat with BT, music director Bappi Lahiri talks about his new song Jhumka Bareilly Wala, among other things.‘THIS SONG IS FOR THE PEOPLE OF BAREILLY’
“I am extremely excited about my new song. Jhumka Bareilly Wala is inspired by the iconic song Jhumka Gira Re from the 1966-film Mera Saaya. Right now, my complete focus is on this song. I want to present it in a way that it becomes more iconic than the original song in the years to come,” Bappi says, adding, “It was my heart’s desire to compose a remixed version of the jhumka song. This song is for the people of Bareilly and dedicated to each and every person connected to the jhumka nagari in any way.”
The composer further adds, “This song will be shot exclusively in Bareilly at the Jhumka Point, with the huge jhumka installation in the backdrop. It will feature in the film Ishq Nachaunda Hai and is going to be a peppy, groovy number. Main Bareilly ke jhumke ko ek alag style mein pesh karunga. Next, I am planning to make a solo album on Bareilly ka jhumka.”
‘I AM HAPPY THAT DISCO MUSIC HAS BEEN KEPT ALIVE THROUGH REMIXES’
Talking about the trend of remixing old songs, which seems to have taken over Bollywood, Bappi says, “I love it! Gaana toh mera hi hai! Body toh meri hi hai, ab ise red sari pehna do ya yellow, kaisa bhi design kar do, rahega toh mera hi. I have given the song its soul. I am happy that in the recreated versions of songs like Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re and Bhankas, my composition and voice from the original have been retained. I am happy with the fact that disco music has been kept alive.”
