Angad Bedi on his co-star in the upcoming Gunjan Saxena biopic
Himesh Mankad (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 23, 2019)
Angad Bedi, who plays Janhvi Kapoor’s protective brother, Anshuman, in the Gunjan Saxena biopic titled Gunjan Saxena: Kargil Girl, describes his costar as a spontaneous actress and a lovely human being.“I saw glimpses of Sridevi ji in Janhvi’s eyes. She is a natural performer but asks for retakes when she isn’t sure of the outcome,” the actor shares, admitting it pushed him to give his best shot. “We have some tough scenes together in the film, particularly the emotional ones. Even though we follow the narrative of the protagonist, it’s also the coming-of-age story of her brother, which spans from 19 to 21 years.”
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is the story of the first Indian woman Air Force pilot in combat and Angad bagged the role in the film after producer Karan Johar watched his performance in Soorma, which featured him as a hockey player. “Something must have struck a chord because he got me to meet our director, Sharan Sharma,” he says.
The film was shot in Lucknow and Georgia, with a chopper flown in from Italy for the action scenes. “We canned some good stuff, particularly the climax,” informs Angad, who plays an ordinance officer, a role that not only required physical prep but a physical transformation as well. “It is a fresh, clean shaven look, with really short army hair. Anshuman has a vulnerable face but a strong spine.”
