MARJAAVAAN had pretty well on day one as it collected 6.75-7 crore nett with good collections in mass pockets. The bigger multiplexes were not too strong but the film also did not have a huge number of screens at multiplexes also with the regular multiplex giving it one screen. Despite the business being over 2 crore nett less than BALA the footfalls of this film are similar to that film as it has a huge ratio of business coming from single screens and lower priced multiplexes.
The first day number is a good number for this film as the film does not have to cover much ground theatrically to be in the plus. This sort of opening ensures safety but whether the film can actually succeed will depend on Monday. The growth will be limited if any on Saturday as its the high end multiplexes which normally grow on Saturday and this film is not collecting there but Sunday will have to push and then it will be the crucial Monday which will tell if the film can sustain.
The film did very well in UP and Bihar with the latter collecting almost 40 lakhs nett while very good numbers UP took the Delhi/UP circuit total to 1.80 crore nett and this is with low numbers in Delhi and Noida. The other circuits to do well were CP Berar and Nizam with both collecting 45 lakhs each.
The other releases did not fare well with MOTICHOOR CHAKNACHOOR being the best of the lot with 30 lakhs nett while the Hollywood release FORD V FERRARI collected around 75-80 lakhs nett. The other Hollywood release CHARLIE'S ANGELS was poor with around 50-55 lakhs nett on day one.
