Amitabh Bachchan to be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Amitabh Bachchan will be honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday announced the news online, saying, “The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for two generations has been selected unanimously for Dadasaheb Phalke award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest Congratulations to him (sic).”
The 76-year-old veteran, who rose to stardom as the big screen’s ‘Angry Young Man’, capturing the anger of the generation in the 1970s with films such as Zanjeer, Deewar and Sholay, has been seen in films like Paa, Badla and Piku in the recent years.
In a career spanning five decades, Bachchan has received four National Film Awards.
