KALANK had the highest opening day of 2019 with collections at around 21 crore nett. It was a record opening day for a Varun Dhawan or Alia Bhatt starrer despite it not being a film for the youth. So despite it not being an initial type of film due to limited action and music not really working, it has put up a good first thanks to the Mahavir Jayanti holiday compensating.

The film collected around 6 crore nett in Mumbai with both Maharashtra and Gujarat doing well. Delhi/UP will top 4 crore nett with strong collections in Delhi NCR and Muslim dominated centres in UP collecting well. The Central India markets were similar to TOTAL DHAMAAL and KESARI which is good for a Varun Dhawan starrer to be in same range as big mass stars like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn in these circuits.

The film will have a drop on Thursday but it will be more about that Friday - Sunday business and whether the film can show that normal weekend upward trend. Its a five day weekend so the film should be coming back to the level of day one on Sunday or better which would be a good result over five days.
