“Nakal Mein Hi Akal Hai”, the intriguing tagline of Emraan Hashmi’s next, Cheat India, had sparked off a certain amount of curiosity among the cinegoers. However, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) have now raised objections to it, as members of Examining Committee believe that it could be interpreted as promoting cheating.

“The film’s teaser was viewed by a different examination committee and they had no objection to the tagline. But the committee which viewed the trailer felt it was not suitable for television and theatres as it might mislead youngsters,” a source close to the development told Mirror.

When Mirror reached out to Tanuj Garg who is producing the project with Atul Kasbekar, Bhushan Kumar and Emraan himself, he confirmed the news, saying, “Even though one examining committee had cleared the film’s tagline in the teaser, another committee found it inappropriate for the trailer. We complied with the CBFC directives and altered the communication for the cinema and television versions of the trailer, after which a U/A certificate was duly granted.”

So, does the tagline feature in the film? “No, it doesn’t. The closest that it gets is the dialogue that features in the trailer, ‘Akalmand Toh Tum Ho, Nakalmand Ban Sakte Ho Kya’ between Emraan and his protégé,” clarified Tanuj.

Cheat India is set against the backdrop of the Indian education system, and highlights scams during several competitive entrance examinations. It is gearing up for a Republic Day release in 2019.
