(Crisp) Movie Review: BATTI GUL METER CHALU by FENIL SETA

Batti Gul Meter Chalu rests on Shahid Kapoor's shoulders majorly. The actor is in a great form and delivers a fantastic performance. His comic timing is brilliant and he elevates many scenes with his antics. Sadly, the film on the whole is strictly average and suffers from flawed writing and direction. The basic premise is very relatable and also important. However, the film is needlessly long at 161 minutes and it takes a lot of time to arrive at the principle point. There’s no doubt that a few scenes are very well handled and make an impact. But these are far and few between. It also has a Jolly LLB hangover and that also goes against the film. Besides Shahid, Divyenndu gives a fine performance while Shraddha Kapoor goes overboard in the initial scenes. But in the second half, she is fine. Yami Gautam has a very late entry and is quite decent. Samir Soni looks haggard and seems like he was made to act at gunpoint! All in all, it’s an average fare and worth watching only for Shahid Kapoor!
My rating - ** ½ out of 5!
