Mirror had earlier reported (May) that Shree Narayan Singh’s Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam-starrer Batti Gul Meter Chalu was back on track following a brief lull brought on by reported non-payment of dues. The film’s team returned to sets last week after producer Prernaa Arora of KriArj Entertainment exited the project and Bhushan Kumar took over as the principal producer. We have now learnt that Yami, who plays a lawyer in the social-drama, is planning to attend court proceedings as part of her prep.
“Yami recently resumed her prep for Batti Gul… which discusses the discrepancies of electricity billing in small towns. As this is an issue that plagues many people across the country, there are various cases that are brought to court by unhappy consumers. Yami is hoping to follow a few cases in the court to understand the grievances firsthand, see how the prosecution addresses it and to study some of the verdicts,” informs a source close the development.
Confirming the news, Yami told Mirror, “As of now, since its summer holidays, my lawyer friend and team are figuring out a vacation bench session that I can attend depending on my current schedule. I am looking forward to the real experience at a court.” The actress believes portraying the character will be a cakewalk as the story is set in North India. “Besides, I have studied law in college but couldn’t pursue it further as acting happened. My character in Batti Gul… is a headstrong girl who stands for what she believes in,” Yami had earlier told Mirror (January 12).
