The Jab We Met actor-director duo’s upcoming film that was to take off in July has been put on the backburner because its ‘edgy script’ didn’t pass muster with the producers

Mirror had earlier reported (October 31, 2017) that Jab We Met actor–director duo, Shahid Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali, was to reunite after a decade for another love story that would kick off in April in Mumbai. It was subsequently decided that the film would be shot through July and August as Shahid is currently busy with Shree Narayan Singh’s social-drama Batti Gul Meter Chalu in Tehri, Uttarakhand, also featuring Shraddha Kapoor.
Imtiaz had confirmed the news, saying, “The film is a human story. It’s set in one place. If I can tell you one thing, it would be that it is not a travel-oriented film, which is a good thing for me.”
Now, Mirror has learnt that the project isn’t working out following creative differences within the team over the script. A source reveals, “The script was a little edgy and even though Shahid loved it, the producers approached were somewhat skeptical about its experimental nature. Shahid and Imtiaz met recently and have decided to keep this film on the backburner for now.”
Imtiaz is now looking to start work on a new script after he returns from his vacation in the Maldives. Meanwhile, the actor who was supposed to start shooting for Imtiaz’s film immediately after wrapping up Batti Gul Meter Chalu and had already blocked his dates for the film, is also reading other scripts as this one is a no-go. “Imtiaz and Shahid may return to this project next year or maybe later,” the source added. Imtiaz’s spokesperson said, “Imtiaz hasn’t made an official announcement about his next film or its cast. When he is ready to do so he will make the requisite announcement.”
