After a hiatus of 10 years, the quirky comedy Blackmail will see the return of the beautiful Urmila Matondkar in a song titled “Bewafa Beauty”. India’s “Chamma Chamma” girl will recreate the magic once again with her glamourous dance moves in the song.
The Irrfan-starrer has been creating waves ever since the trailer was unveiled where it raised the question, “What will you do if you find your wife in bed with someone else?” The lyrics of “Bewafa Beauty” that releases today poses the same question in a lighter vein. Crooned by Pawni Pandey and composed by Amit Trivedi, “Bewafa Beauty” has quirky lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The song is not just entertaining to hear but the video featuring Urmila is guaranteed to be a visual treat for the audience.
Talking about the song, producer Bhushan Kumar said, “Although Irrfan’s character in Blackmail is in a situation no man would want to be in, the mood of the film is tongue-in-cheek. We wanted a song that would be naughty and humorous without being vulgar. “Bewafa Beauty” is that song. Amitabh’s wicked lyrics set to Amit’s racy composition and Pawni’s spicy voice is picturised on a huge, magnetic star like Urmila. This song is set to take the airwaves by storm in an already scorching summer.”
Revealing how “Bewafa Beauty” was incorporated in the film, director Abhinay Deo added, “Initially, there was no song in the film. But when we were discussing the film creatively and with Bhushan, who is the head of T-Series and has a keen ear for music, he felt that there should be a song weaved into the narrative. As he said that, I remembered that I had been dabbling with an idea where I wanted a song which could take the story ahead. I did not want an item number appearing in the film out of nowhere. We knew that the song should be able to say something in the story. This is what “Bewafa Beauty” is about. With its name, the song focuses on an unfaithful beauty. That also forms the film’s premise. It is about a man whose wife is unfaithful to him. Then, through the song, as I gave the brief to Amitabh and Amit, I wanted to revive the memory of fantastic songs of this kind from the past. And that’s why we cast Urmila.”
When asked about his choice of actress for the special number, Abhinay explained, “Urmila is a massive star. She is not an item girl. We wanted a performer, someone who had a tremendous star value but hadn’t been seen on the silver screen for a while now. From all the names we came up with, I believe we picked the best. She fit the bill perfectly. She is gorgeous and incredible as a dancer. It ended up being a perfect match for the song and the film.”
Blackmail is a quirky comedy featuring an ensemble cast of Irrfan, Kirti Kulhari, Divya Dutta, Arunoday Singh, Omi Vaidya, Anuja Sathe, Pradhuman Singh Mall and Gajraj Rao, among others.
Produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar and RDP Motion Pictures’ Abhinay Deo, Blackmail is directed by Abhinay Deo and slated to release on April 6.
