Two days after yesteryear actress Shammi breathed her last at the age of
88 in Mumbai, her Bollywood friends and family turned up at the Iskcon
Temple in Juhu at 5 pm for the chautha. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was
accompanied by actress-mother-in-law Jaya. Padmini Kolhapure, Poonam
Dhillon, Dimple Kapadia, Tina Ambani and Aruna Irani were also among the
visitors, as also her close friends Waheeda Rehman and Asha Parekh.
Padmini told Mirror that everyone gave Shammi aunty, as she was fondly known, a glorious tribute and recalled how she had been so full of life. “Whoever spoke about her only had the best things to say because she treated everyone equally. I myself remember her as someone who would light up the room with her happiness and positivity. We were in touch through Ashaji (Shammi’s longtime friend Asha Parekh) who used to learn singing from my father (Pandharinath Kolhapure). I met her at Ashaji’s house a couple of times. Ashaji is very upset and will miss Shammiji a lot. She’s lost a dear friend,” the actress rued.
Shammi had passed away at her home in Millat Nagar, Oshiwara, on Monday shortly before midnight.
