After the much talked about Lipstick Under My Burkha, director Alankrita Shrivastava and producer Ekta Kapoor are set for a reunion with another female-centric film. “Lipstick… went so well and we had a great time working on it. So a reunion seemed like natural progression. Ekta has a lot of courage to take risks and she is the right person for the kind of films I make,” Alankrita told Mirror.
According to the filmmaker, her next will be shot entirely in North India and is about two women in a coming-of-age story. “I’m still working on the screenplay so I’d rather complete it before saying more on the subject,” she says cagily, adding, “For now I’m excited about exploring the lives of both protagonists and the roles women have in the changing India of today. The future is female, not just in India but the world over.”
When prodded on the cast, Alankrita revealed that she is currently waiting to finalise it and wants to kick off shooting this year.
Point out that expectation from her follow-up directorial must be sky-high and she says, “It’s daunting because you don’t know what preconceived ideas people may have after Lipstick... I like to work with a blank slate. The journey of my debut film was intense but now it’s over.”
