STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI had a poor opening day in India as it grossed just 2 crore nett but it was still higher than any of the new Hindi releases. There were nine of these Hindi films like DHANLAXMI, EK ANDEKHA SACH, GAME OF AYODHYA, HARE KRISHNA, HAUNTED VILLA LONAVALA, JOURNEY OF BHANGOVER, MONSOON SHOOTOUT, MY FRIEND'S DULHANIA and OFFICE #thebrightesthorrorfilm. In fact the opening day collections of STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI were more than these films combined. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is better than the last Star Wars film ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY in 2016 hardly registering with an under 1 crore nett opening. But STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS had grossed 3.60 crore nett on day which was an average collection.
The STAR WARS franchise has little value in India. Its not just recent STAR WARS films which have not done well but even the original films like STAR WARS (1977) and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980) were huge flops in India
The best Hindi release was MONSOON SHOOTOUT which should finish in the 25 lakh nett range which leaves it little chance. Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrers hardly open as they lack entertainment for the audiences but this is the worst of the lost barring HARAAMKHOR which was at 20 lakhs nett. BABUMOSHAI BANDOOKBAAZ had an opening day of 1.61 crore nett, FREAKY ALI was 1.91 crore nett, RAMAN RAGHAV 2.0 was 99 lakhs nett and MANJHI - The MOUNTAIN MAN was 1.34 core nett.
