The filmmaker’s 23-year-old assistant director-girlfriend Shubra Shetty has put him on a path of self-actualisation through yoga poses and TLC

Anurag Kashyap has dropped at least 10 kg. He’s drinking vegetable
juice, doing yoga and pilates, and seems happier than ever before. On
the work front, the 44-year-old filmmaker has been silently editing his
next, Mukkabaaz, which is penned by a distant relative, Vineet Kumar,
who also features in the film.
Observers are attributing Anurag’s new path to self-actualisation to lady luck and for good reason. Lately, his Instagram handle has been generously peppered with posts packed with PDA about 23-year-old Shubra Shetty, who, in the last one year, has risen in the ranks from third assistant director to fi rst AD, and is now co-writing Anurag’s next.
A St Xavier’s alumna, she started her cinematic career with Phantom Films, of which Anurag is a co-founder, and reportedly harbours dreams of becoming a leading lady. An actress, who has previously worked with Anurag on a big project, told Mirror that the loved-up couple is inseparable. “Shubra, who moved in with Anurag in his Versova village apartment last year, gets along famously with his teenaged daughter, Aaliyah, who is seven years younger than her. Anurag always goes all out when in love but his social media posts have come as a surprise as he’s usually not given to public displays of affection,” she asserted.
The couple took a trip to New York in August 2016 and Anurag posted a picture of them kissing on the street. An AD who has worked with him on three films, reveals that more recently, they were in Germany and France too.
A leading filmmaker, who has collaborated with Anurag in the past, and was among the guests at his friend and partner Madhu Mantena’s wedding with Masaba Gupta in 2015, reveals that Shubra was Anurag’s date. “He is fiercely protective of her and they not only travel together often but are frequently spotted on coffee and dinner dates in Andheri and Bandra. Shubra also accompanies Anurag to business meetings and will be a part of the Aanand L Rai production, a romcom which he is presently scripting and will be directing too,” he added.
