Ayushmann Khurrana and Sonakshi Sinha
Ayushmann Khurrana jumps to Sonakshi Sinha's defence, days after a few musicians slammed her unconfirmed stage act at the upcoming Bieber concert

Singer-actor Ayushmann Khurrana feels actors are more popular in India and are, therefore, often chosen to front concerts and shows instead of singers.

Recently, Sonakshi Sinha got into a Twitter spat with singer Armaan Malik, who opposed the idea of actors singing and performing at shows and in films. mid-day had reported about the actress being approached to open pop icon Justin Bieber's India gig.

Ayushmann says Indians are culturally tuned in a way that they prefer actors over singers. “Our country is culturally very different; only cricketers and actors are mostly in the spotlight. It has been like that since ages. Apart from that, actors are revered more than singers as our films are all about stars lip-syncing; they are voices of the singers,” he told PTI.

The actor says there is also a commercial aspect involved in big concerts as organisers try to boost sales by involving Bollywood stars. “It is culturally tuned like that. I don't know if it is right or wrong,” he adds.
