MID-DAY (April 24, 2017)
Months after claiming his next directorial venture, Takadum, does not have any similarities with Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016), Homi Adajania has confessed that he has put the project on hold since he wasn’t happy with the script.
Homi had announced the film last year with Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and Irrfan in lead roles. This will be Pari and Sushant’s second outing together after Shuddh Desi Romance (2013). The film was due to go on floors in October last year. “When it (story) got translated from an English set up to Hindi, it seemed like a forced fit in Mumbai. I tried to fix it then, but [that did not work out]. Now, it [the film] has gone for rewriting. It’s not shelved; it’s still an open working possibility,” Homi told PTI.
The filmmaker says he was happy with the initial story, which was based in New York in English. “When we translated it, I felt people like this don’t exist in Mumbai. It felt forced,” he added.
His team unanimously agreed not to go ahead with the film. “We all took a creative decision not to jump into it even though we were close to starting the shoot. The actors also graciously agreed as we all wanted to make it in the best way possible. So, we have to rewrite it and then start."
