They may not be forthcoming on the subject, but one knows that Shahid Kapoor and producer Madhu Mantena are no longer on talking terms. Madhu spoke to Mirror but didn’t wish to either deny or confirm the development. The duo, that was once really close, had their first public tiff when Vikas Bahl’s Shandaar (2015), produced by Madhu’s company Phantom Films, tanked. But that misunderstanding was a short-lived one and the besties soon made up, dancing with gusto at each other’s weddings that took place a month apart in 2015.
In fact, one of the reasons why Shahid readily agreed to come on-board Abhishek Chaubey’s dark drug-drama, Udta Punjab, was because it was a project put together by Madhu’s company. Madhu was happy with the accolades the actor received for his performance as Tommy Singh, including the Filmfare Best Actor Award (Critics’ Category).
Earlier, whenever Shahid spoke of Madhu, one could sense a genuine fondness for his friend. However, according to a source, the actor recently parted ways with the talent management agency, CAA Kwan, which Madhu is an integral part of. This drove a wedge in his personal equation with Madhu. “As of now, the two of them do not even speak to each other,” adds the source.
But according to a common acquaintance, the two continue with their efforts to rekindle the friendship, though neither has bitten the bait yet.
When Shahid was asked if Madhu and he had drifted apart, the actor said, “It’s a personal matter.” He however confirmed that he was not with Kwan anymore. “But I want to clarify that there’s no bad blood between Madhu and me at all.”
Incidentally, Madhu is now concentrating on his agency’s new sign-up, Hrithik Roshan. And Shahid is definitely a distant thought.
Interestingly, besides the two warring friends, everyone is curious to know the status of the relationship between their wives Mira Rajput and Masaba Gupta, who were BFFs at one point. While there has been no fight between the two, the bonding of yore has snapped since their husbands have moved on.
But all is not lost yet. As is often heard, there are no permanent friends and no permanent enemies in Bollywood. So chances are that Shahid and Madhu may make up again. After all, they’ve done it earlier.
