Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu have something in common. They are currently doing the Tabata workout under the supervision of celeb trainer Yasmin Karachiwala.
Getting fit fast
Tabata is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, featuring exercises that last four minutes. It’s a great workout if you're short for time, need to switch up your routine, or want to improve endurance and speed. Katrina and Alia will both be seen doing plenty of action in their next films including Tiger Zinda Hai and Dragon respectively, while Bipasha will be performing high-octane stunts on Salman Khan’s Da Bangg tour in Australia this month and need to get fit fast.
First came Kat
Katrina was the first to start doing the Tabata workout, which lasts only four minutes, where one does high intensity cardio workout for 20 seconds, rests for 10 seconds and then complete eight rounds. Says Yasmin, “You push yourself as hard as you can for 20 seconds and rest for 10 seconds. This is one set. I keep changing eight sets of each exercise between the three actresses. They all want to be slim, curvy and look good on screen and this training impacts both the aerobic and anaerobic systems.”
What Alia does
Alia already does circuit training. It was only earlier this week that Yasmin started her on Tabata. “She started with the Bosu squat halfball on a platform which is unstable but engages in your core muscles. Her second exercise was pushups, third was table rolls and fourth was sit-ups in 30 seconds and then back to squats for about four minutes. I am a big believer of circuit training for girls. The muscle fibres get activated getting the body into complete shock mode. After the upper body and lower body workouts, Alia did the trampoline.”
Bips is half a trainer
Bipasha is the newest entrée to Yasmin’s gym. “She came to train for the Da-Bangg tour. A few years ago, she used to train with me but she’s half a trainer herself. She works out with me when she’s bored. I think she enjoys working out with me because I am very particular about workouts and when you do it on your own you tend to get lax. Bipasha is doing a combination of everything — from Tabata to crossfit and TRX — as she wants to do some kickass stuff on stage. It’s fun training her as she’s so fit herself. I have to up my game and challenge myself to make her do stuff she’s not done.”
