Netflix Inc has acquired
exclusive worldwide rights to Sudhanshu Saria's critically-acclaimed
debut feature film, LOEV. The movie, starring Shiv Pandit, Dhruv Ganesh
and Siddharth Menon in principal roles, revolves around three friends
who are struggling to define the boundaries between love and
friendship. The story unfolds as they go on a weekend road trip.
Written and directed by Saria, it has been jointly produced by Arfi Lamba and Katharina Suckale's banner, Bombay Berlin Film Productions, and Saria's Four Line Films. The filmmaker says, “Even when I wrote this film, I was sure it wouldn't get made. So, to find ourselves on the threshold of such a prestigious, worldwide release is surreal.“
LOEV had its world premiere at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and has since then played at more than 50 film fests around the world, including SXSW, Jeonju, BFI Flare, Frameline and Hong Kong.
Lamba adds, “Backing this film might have seemed a risky proposition to others, but not to me. We listen to scripts all day long and when something this honest, relevant and emotional comes along, you grab it.“
Saria sums up, saying, “It's a pure win for me. Netflix makes it possible for us to reach our audiences in 22 languages, with the push of a single button. What more can one ask for.“
LOEV releases worldwide on May 1.
