Aditya Roy Kapur’s last film OK Jaanu didn’t work at the box office. The actor has been going through a low phase with three back-to-back duds. He claims he ‘has not yet signed his next film’, but admits that he’s liked ‘a slice-of-life romantic film again’. Since his solo career isn’t really going that great, we ask him for his take on two-hero films — his biggest hit till date is the two-hero Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, after all — and about the genres he would love to try out now...

You started off in two-hero films with superstars like Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar. Then you had YJHD with Ranbir Kapoor. Are you open to doing one now?
It’s not something I’m not comfortable with or I’m completely closed to. According to me, some of the best films have been two-hero projects. I would definitely want to do one, but it has to appeal to and make sense to me. People also need to write them well. Honestly, in the last two or three years, I have never been offered any interesting two-hero films. People are not writing them. Probably because actors are closed to the idea. I don’t know what it is.

If you had to pick someone from the younger generation for a two-hero film, who would you pick and why?
I enjoyed working with Ranbir. I would love to work with him again. He is fantastic as an actor and a co-star. Professionally, I had the best time working on that film. Now what film we do, I don’t have a clue.

Still, pick a film which you think can be made with both you and Ranbir in it..
(Thinks for sometime) Face/Off was a great two-hero film. It was an amazing film where Nicolas Cage and John Travolta swap faces. That would be fun to do! Ranbir and me swapping identities and faces. Very cool! We both are perfect for that film.

But is there a genre you want to jump into?
I want to do an action film. I have not been offered one and I am not in talks for one. But that’s a genre I grew up watching. That’s a genre which has been a staple in my life. I have watched every action film by Bruce Lee, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan and Van Damme. I have grown up on those films. So, I am itching to do a movie in that space. It will be great fun to shoot the bad guys and get the girl.

Any of the recent action flicks you really liked?
I don’t know about Bollywood, but I love this Hollywood film called John Wick. Keanu Reeves taking badla for his dog’s death — I think that was a great premise for an action film. I liked that. I would love to do it if that’s made here.
