Vadodara, one of the stops
on Shah Rukh Khan's Mumbai to Delhi #RaeesByRail journey, witnessed an
unfortunate mishap after the August Kranti Express, in which SRK was
travelling, left the station on Monday night. Shortly after the train
left, the crowd of gathered fans surged toward the station exit, and in
the rush, Farheed Khan Pathan, a local politician, died of a cardiac
arrest after being caught up in the stampede-like situation.
Officials at the railway police control room in Vadodara told us, “At
around 10.30 pm, the train arrived at platform number six of the station
and halted for ten minutes. Some people started banging on the train's
window panes. Police had to resort to mild lathi charge to control the
situation.“

Two constables of the Railway Police also sustained
injuries. Mr Pathan was reportedly standing on a side when he was caught
in the stampede that followed the lathi charge. He fell to the ground
and was suffocated as he was run over by people. He suffered a cardiac
arrest and despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, his life couldn't
be saved. Due to the chaos preceding this mishap, SRK could not meet the fans and the crowd barely got a glimpse
of the actor, though Vadodara-based cricketers Irrfan and Yusuf Pathan got to meet him inside the train.

The deceased had come to the station to meet his niece, Samina Shaikh
(Times of India online and MissKyra Digital Manager), who was travelling
in the same train as part of the contingent covering the journey. Following the tragedy, Samina, along with her mother, deboarded at
Ratlam station at around 2:30 am and left for Vadodara. The film's team
arranged transportation for them.

After arriving at Delhi's
Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station on Tuesday morning, Shah Rukh Khan
expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and said, “It's
unfortunate, my prayers are with the family of the deceased. I just
spoke to the journalist; she has reached there. I think the burial is in
an hour or half hour. We have some of our people with the family
members there.“ In the subdued mood following the episode, SRK did not
meet fans at the Delhi station, and made a quiet exit.
Talking
about the unfortunate incident, Samina said, “It's unfortunate that my
uncle lost his life. He succumbed to suffocation as it was crowded and
he was a heart patient.“
