There’s a huge difference between the Shahid Kapoor I met the last time around and the Shahid I’m meeting now. Calmer, more relaxed and definitely happier, Shahid the dad is, in his words, a ‘more settled man’. Blessed with his first child last year, he talks about about the changes in him and his life that have happened post the birth of Misha...
How has parenthood changed you?
I am a lot more settled, I would say. I am in a completely different zone, emotionally and mentally, in terms of my perspective towards things. Such large experiences really help you see things in a newer, more evolved manner. When life interacts with you like this, it shows you things you didn’t see earlier. I am sure everybody who has had a baby knows how their mindset changed when they did. So I’d say I’m a lot more zoned in.
Has it affected your choice in films?
No, that’s an on-going process. That’s an evolving and learning experience where I will keep going right and wrong. So my perspective towards films is simple. If something is exciting and different, do it. If something is exciting but not different, consider it. But if something is not exciting but sounds like a lot of things that did really well, definitely don’t do it.
Have you been on diaper duty?
I have changed diapers many times. See, the problem is that you are inexperienced. So the relevant part is not whether I have changed diapers, but whether I have changed diapers with poop in them. And yes, obviously I have done all of it.
What advice have your parents given you?
My parents have not given me any advice at all. My dad just keeps smiling and telling me, ‘Ab tujhe pata chalega’. That’s it.
You once famously said that you don’t want to be like what your dad was to you. Comment...
I am trying to convince myself that I won’t be like him. But in reality, I am a lot like him. A lot of things between the two of us are similar. At least that’s what I am told. Mira and mom keep telling us that we are very similar.
