Jhakaas! It’s a word that’s synonymous with Anil Kapoor. So much so, Danny Boyle used it for Anil’s character in Slumdog Millionaire. The actor is asked to mouth it in his unique manner, wherever he goes.

But when asked to repeat the expression a la his father, at a recent awards event where he won the Best Debutant Award, Anil’s son Harshvardhan simply refused. This, after his father presented him the award. Presenter Karan Johar made the request, but Harsh politely turned him down.

And here’s why he did it. He said, “My father’s legacy is far greater than just one word. Also, dad always tells me that I need to create my own identity as an actor and the only way to do that is by doing good, honest work.”

Anil says, “I jokingly told Karan on stage that even if you pay him a Rs 100 crore rupees, he is not going to say ‘Jhakaas’. If Harsh is lucky, someday, a talented writer or director will coin a phrase that will form a part of his legacy.”
