BEFIKRE struggled on the weekdays after managing average business for the first four days. The big drop in business on Tuesday sealed its fate and now even though there is not much competition this week its not really going to benefit the film. The first week collections are around 48.50 crore nett after a 34.50 crore nett weekend. So even with a decent Monday the film could only add around 40% on the weekdays. The first week collections are the 11th highest of the year behind films like BAAGHI and DISHOOM. While BEFIKRE had Ranveer Singh those films also featured young stars like Tiger Shroff and Varun Dhawan. Despite the added advantage of a director like Aditya Chopra, the film still collected less than those films.

The problem was always going to be due to the genre as rom-coms only appeal to the youth and that too urban youth. So if you get appreciation from this sector you may go on to do 85-90 crore nett though 75 crore nett is still the highest for the genre. But if the target audience does not take to it than that minority audience dwindles further and this is what has happened here. Even if the film had worked it may have done 90 crore, lets push it and say 100 crore nett which would be excellent for the genre but still would not be big number for an Aditya Chopra film because of his prior blockbusters. A big director has to so a universal film as only that way there is a chance of meeting expectations.
