The actor turned up at the mahurat of their wedding comedy even though he is set to shoot only in January

Mirror (November 4) had earlier reported that Anees Bazmee’s Mubarakan with Anil and Arjun Kapoor will roll in November and will be shot across UK and Punjab. The team kick-started the wedding comedy’s first schedule in Chandigarh on Wednesday with a mahurat which was attended by the chacha-bhatija jodi on a chariot (inset) to the sound of band-baaja and some balle balle on dhol beats. And despite the 59-year-old actor not having scenes to be shot in this schedule, he flew down to Chandigarh especially to surprise his bhatija.

“It’s a very emotional moment for me as this is the first time I am working with Arjun and I wanted to be by his side on the mahurat day. He was quite surprised when I entered his room. He will start shooting from Thursday while I will join them in January for a song sequence in Mumbai and will head to London by the month-end to shoot other portions,” Anil informed Mirror from Chandigarh, adding that he is set to return to the Bay on Saturday after honouring some work commitments in the Capital.

Described as My Big Fat Greek Wedding-meets-No Entry, the film is produced by Sneha Rajani, Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde and revolves around an extended Punjabi family at a destination wedding in Europe. Arjun plays a double role, one of the characters being a Sikh. “It’s always a pleasure to be in Chandigarh. Amazing welcome, amazing people and an amazing way for them to say Mubarakan to us for starting here. I really can’t wait for the madness to begin,” Arjun told Mirror.
