It can now be told. Shahid Kapoor signed on for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati on his guru, Baba Gurinder Singh’s say-so. Singh is the spiritual leader of the Radha Soami Satsang Beas sect.

Says a source, “Shahid and Mira follow the Baba’s advice in all things. They even went to Beas to ask him if the name they chose (Misha) for their child was the right one. In fact, Shasha signed on for Padmavati only after his guru said yes.”

Shahid’s reluctance stemmed from the fact that both, Deepika and Ranveer, who came in the industry much after him have bigger hits to their name. In thirteen years, none of his films have touched the Rs 100 crore mark. “His biggest hit was R...Rajkumar (Rs 60 cr). Baba told him that he needs to sign a big project which has the potential to cross Rs 100 crore. Shahid, wants a mega hit. Baba felt Padmavati is the right choice and so Shahid agreed to do it,”concludes the source.
