Mirror (August 24) was the
first to report that Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana and Kriti Sanon
were coming together for Junglee Pictures and BR Studio's upcoming
production, Bareily Ki Barfi, which is rooted in Uttar Pradesh, with
Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari as the director.
The romcom kicked off in Lucknow in the first week of October and on Sunday locals were delighted to spot Rajukummar looking like Mr-Goody-Two-Shoes filming on the streets. “Raj is playing a salesman in a sari shop. In a white-on-white checked shirt and black trousers he looked like any seedha saadha, simple boy-next-door,“ informs a source from the sets.
The locals who had loved the actor in films like Shahid, Kai Po Che!, Queen, Hamari Adhuri Kahani and more recently Aligarh were happy to have him in their midst. But their perception changed the next day when he stepped out of his vanity van to stroll to the location, looking like a small town rock star in a cheap faux leather jacket, acid-wash jeans, fake Nikes, a sunny yellow Tee and green glares. Everyone just stood and stared as he strutted away without so much of a backward glance. Buzz is, he has a double role in the film. Speculation is also rife that he could be playing the same person with diversely different personalities. No one is telling.
All that the source reveals is that Kriti's family owns a sweet shop which explains the 'barfi' in the title and she is a liberated, progressive UP girl. Ayushmann, owns a printing press. “They still have a long way to go and will be shooting here till almost the third week of November before proceeding to Bareily. There's a lot of star-gazing in store for the locals who in keeping with their nawabi 'pehle aap' tehzeeb are extremely hospitable and well-behaved on the sets,“ the source signs off.
