After releasing a video statement to calm tempers on October 18 in which he said that going forward he won't engage with Pakistani artistes, Karan Johar called on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who assured him that the state government will ensure smooth release of the film. “The state government will not allow anyone to disturb law and order and stern action will be taken. Democratic protest is fine but unlawful activity will not be tolerated,“ Fadnavis told the filmmaker.

On Wednesday police had taken strict action against workers of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's film unit, Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Karmachari Sena, for protesting and raising slogans outside Metro Cinema in South Mumbai. Twelve activists were arrested and sent to judicial custody till November 4. But on Thursday afternoon, MNS party members demonstrated in front of a cinema hall in Nagpur against the film's release and submitted a memorandum to the manager of the cinema hall not to screen the film.

MNS cine wing head Amey Khopkar, after a meeting with senior party leaders and Raj Thackeray on Wednesday, said they were firm on opposing the film's release.
