Katrina Kaif on her next and why it is a kind of film Bollywood has never attempted before
Nayandeep Rakshit (DNA; September 7, 2016)
Katrina Kaif’s Baar Baar Dekho with Sidharth Malhotra
releases this week. And now the attention is shifting back to her next
release, Jagga Jasoos which has been in the making for two years. Here,
Kat talks about the delay in the film, defends director Anurag Basu,
admits that films that are shot over a period of two years can be taxing
on the actors, but stresses that audiences don’t care when films take a
long time to make, as long as they are happy with the end-product. Read
on….
You are doing Raat Baaki with Fawad next...
That’s not been announced. As of now, I am in talks for a few films; the only film that I have on the floor after Baar Baar Dekho is Jagga Jasoos.
Jagga Jasoos has been in the making for over two years now. Do you lose patience?
No. Although, it is definitely a test for you and your concentration, for sure. That’s why you have to make sure you don’t let yourself down. Because when the film releases, the audiences will forget all of these things. They are not going to care how long the film took to be made, what happened, etc. Audiences will come in to see the film and everything else is forgotten and one has to remember that. It may be a long process, but for the viewers it’s a new journey. If you ever lose your concentration, the only person, who is going to suffer, is you.
Don’t you feel the time gap will negatively affect the film?
No. Anurag Basu is a special filmmaker. He always has been. I remember, during the making of Barfi!, which also took a little time to be made, everyone was saying the same. It’s just that his process is different from others. I think the process is equally unique. With Jagga Jasoos, he is attempting something very unique. It’s an unusual film which I don’t think anyone has ever attempted in the industry. It’s an extremely complex film to make. Although the fate of the film is not in our hands and we cannot possibly know it rightaway, the attempt is unique, for sure.
Are you done with the shoot?
No. There are still 20 days of work left.
It’s a musical film where you are playing a journalist...
Yes, that’s correct. So you can imagine! If you have seen those short clips which have come on YouTube, you will understand why it is something I would wanna be part of.
Are you playing a teenager in JJ?
No, there is no age specification in the film. There won’t be different ages like Baar Baar Dekho.
Do you think JJ will become a franchise?
That’s a question for the producers. I am not the producer of the film, although you can make me one now! (smiles)
