MOHENJO DARO had a low weekend of 30 crore nett plus although the trend of the film is better than what could have been expected after the first day. The film could have just catapulted as RUSTOM is doing very well but managed to grow on Saturday and Sunday. This won't really make much difference to the final outcome unless a miracle happens on Tuesday. The best business for the film has come in Nizam/Andhra which has clocked 2.50 crore nett over the weekend and is actually the third biggest opening in that circuit after SULTAN and FAN. The main markets of Mumbai and North have not done well. There has been growth over the weekend but even the Sunday numbers in Mumbai and Delhi/UP are poor. Below are the daily first weekend figures of MOHENJO DARO.
Friday - 8,75,00,000
Saturday - 9,50,00,000
Sunday - 12,00,00,000
TOTAL - 30,25,00,000

The knives will be out for Hrithik Roshan after this as not only has the film fared poorly but also did not open. Even the Overseas market could not open. But Hrithik Roshan is an established star and so the stardom remains intact unless this starts to happens all the time. There is a problem with selection of subjects as he is still to cross the 200 crore nett mark despite being one of the few stars who has given a couple 20 crore nett plus openings. Its the same for Akshay Kumar but there the volume of work is much higher and the initials less.

Hrithik Roshan did a similar film like this - JODHAA AKBAR -  which also did not do too well. He tends to work well in the commercial action format as even a BANG BANG managed 140 crore nett which is a good number though it was not a big hit due to huge costs. But over the last few years there has been a   JODHAA AKBAR, GUZAARISH, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA and now MOHENJO DARO. With this sort of stuff, the Hrithik Roshan brand takes a beating. He is an established star and there is time to pull this round but it has to be quick as that image of a smart action dance star could be hit as younger stars try to establish the same image.

RUSTOM had a good first weekend of 50 crore nett approx. In real value the business is actually better than it looks as it clashed with MOHENJO DARO and the Saturday and Sunday business of the film would have been higher in the big multiplexes if it had more screens. Sometimes this is not an issue as films don't get such high occupancy even with clash but here the film has gone to 80% with screenings at peak time going housefull. More screens would have meant more shows at peak periods which would mean higher collections. On a solo release this film would have been the highest Akshay Kumar opening weekend as even on worst case you can add 5 crore though it would probably be more like 8-10 crore nett. The film is a HIT and though mass regions are less than the big cities they have still performed much better than AIRLIFT. Below is the daily weekend business of RUSTOM.
Friday - 14,00,00,000
Saturday - 16,25,00,000
Sunday - 19,50,00,000
Total - 49,75,00,000

The best business has come in Mumbai circuit at around 17.50 crore nett, Delhi UP is around 9.50 crore nett and East Punjab is 5.50 crore nett. It is a record opener for Akshay Kumar in Mysore and West Bengal with 2.75 crore nett and 2 crore nett respectively. The circuit where the collections are a little less is Nizam/Andhra and that may be because MOHENJO DARO has fared better there and  had a wider release. The film will have a huge Monday and it will be among the biggest ever due to the Independence Day. It remains to be seen if its among the top five Monday's of all time.
