Katrina Kaif is among the few stars — like Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ranbir Kapoor — to have stayed away from social media. But now she is ready to dip her toe in the communicating pool. From this month, the actress will maintain three social media accounts. Katrina will officially be on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

While she has held a temporary Twitter account, that she endorsed, it was started and operated by the beauty company for which she is a brand ambassador. Katrina celebrates her birthday on July 16 and she plans her social media ‘launch’ around that date.

A source close to the actress says, “Katrina was not convinced about joining social media but she now realises that it’s one of the most powerful tools to convey one’s thoughts and opinions and she has decided to jump in and test the waters. The first film that she will promote on social media is Baar Baar Dekho, which releases in September. Her reasons for joining the social media are more personal than professional. She wants to have a platform to say what she wants, and also connect with her fans directly. First, she plans to join Facebook and Insta and then she will make her presence felt on Twitter. She wants to start with a personalised introduction on FB. She will be handling the accounts herself and not through managers or a digital company.”
