While he is busy promoting his upcoming drug-drama, Udta Punjab, Abhishek Chaubey has already commissioned his team to begin work on a new project, a period drama. We hear the plot revolves around the lives of Chambal dacoits in the 1970s, at their peak. Sudip Sharma who has written Udta Punjab and is currently working on the period drama told Mirror, “I am still writing the story and recently visited Chambal for the initial research. I met some reformed dacoits from the time. Some of them have more than 80 murder charges on them. Everyone has heard horror stories about the dacoits of Chambal but I've realised the reality is quite different from what Hindi films portray. We aim to capture that reality. Abhishek has been busy with the post-produc tion of Udta Punjab but we will take another trip to the location together soon.“

Prod him on how the Udta Punjab story came about and Sudip says, “Abhishek had approached me with an idea of a film around drugs, I suggested that we base the characters in Punjab.“

The two then met some 18-year-old drug addicts who had been rounded up by the police. “The cops were kind enough to let us interact with them. We also met people working at rehabilitation centres and supposed peddlers. After all the ground work, we realised this film deserved to be made,“ Sudip adds.
