Prod him on how the Udta Punjab story came about and Sudip says, “Abhishek had approached me with an idea of a film around drugs, I suggested that we base the characters in Punjab.“
The two then met some 18-year-old drug addicts who had been rounded up by the police. “The cops were kind enough to let us interact with them. We also met people working at rehabilitation centres and supposed peddlers. After all the ground work, we realised this film deserved to be made,“ Sudip adds.
