Vidya Balan had been offered as many as 10 biopics in
the last three years. This year, she finally okayed two of them. One
being Ekk Albela, where she makes a special appearance as Geeta Bali.
And there’s the Kamala Das biopic.
There’s something about the film which touched Vidya. “There have been a lot of great stories narrated to me in terms of the biopics that I have been offered over the years. Some I liked, but they could not happen, some I did not like. With the Kamala Das biopic, everything fell in the right place at the right time. She is strong, level-headed and a feminist. Plus, she is a poet. So, it was a yes from the word go.”
There were talks that the Kamala Das biopic might be made in two languages — Malayalam and Hindi, but now, we hear that’s not the plan. Vidya confirms, “It is not a bilingual film. It will be a Malayalam film. We start shoot once I finish Begum Jaan which rolls from June 18.”
So will the biopic not have a pan-India release? Vidya explains, “It will release all over India, but with Hindi subtitles.” The actress will now undergo diction classes to prepare for her role.
