6 MONTHS OVER & ONE OF THE DRIEST WEEKENDS IS HERE!

The week before the release of a biggie is usually one of the worst ever! 4-5 small-budget movies release and try their luck in cinemas but their efforts always prove futile. The present scenario is no different. Last week's releases - Raman Raghav 2.0, Junooniyat, 7 Hours To Go, A Scandall and Rough Book - have bombed. Tomorrow, Shorgul and Kerry On Kutton will hit screens. Both will flop but the former will have some sort of respectable collections. Kerry On Kutton meanwhile will be a disaster. Sultan releases next week on Wednesday July 6 and hence both these films will get just 5 days to score. Hence, one can imagine the collections.

6 months of the year are over and it has not been great. Only 2 films crossed 100 crore - Airlift and Housefull 3 - and even these films didn't really were blockbusters. Airlift collected 123 crore approx while Housefull 3 will finish off at around 108 crore. The Jungle Book, on the other hand, shocked everyone by doing a business of around 180 crore, a first for any Hollywood film. Marathi film Sairat on the other hand too stunned trade by netting 80 crore and that too with a major chunk coming in from Maharashtra. This shows that viewers are there but are not coming to theatres possibly due to not-so-great content. And Bollywood is facing the brunt while regional and Hollywood films are making merry by delivering content that people love. Its high time Bollywood comes up with content that is mainstream and appeals to a wide section of audiences.
