Arif Ali planned a surprise birthday bash for big brother Imtiaz at the filmmaker's Andheri residence to ring in his 45th birthday on Wednesday. And in keeping with the writer-director's dislike for parties, it was a low-key affair with dinner and the customary cake while conversation flowed well past midnight.

Close filmi friends and a couple of assistants clicked selfies while Ranbir Kapoor made a guest appearance. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra and singers, Sunidhi Chauhan and Irshad Kamil, were also in attendance.

While reports claimed that Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma were at the do as well, a guest from the get-together refuted this with a resounding "no". "Even if they wanted to come over, Imtiaz would've asked them not to. He hates parties, is socially awkward and definitely doesn't like celebrating his birthday. This was as private as private gets," the guest asserted.
